A prevention campaign is informing the public about the correct use of swimming pool maintenance products and the right things to do in the event of an accident.

There are three main ways of being exposed to swimming pool products: by inhaling chlorine vapours, through local contact with the skin or eyes, or by swallowing chlorine.  These incidents can be avoided by taking a few precautions:

• Product storage:  Keep products in their original packaging, tightly closed and out of the reach of children and animals.
• Handling and dosing:  Always read the label and follow the instructions associated with the hazard symbols carefully.  Wear appropriate protective equipment.
• Safety during use:  Handle products in a well-ventilated area using clean, dedicated tools.
