First minimum EU standards for the welfare and traceability of dogs and cats

The European Parliament plenary has adopted the report (AGRI/10/00301) concerning the European Commission’s proposal on the welfare of cats and dogs and their traceability.

The next step will be the trilogue, in which the European Commission, Parliament and Council meet to reach a compromise agreement. The final regulation is expected to be agreed and adopted before the end of this year and will be the first EU legislation setting minimum standards on welfare and requiring the Identification and Registration of all cats and dogs in the EU.
