Information sessions on the Guidance document on Birds and Mammals

Date: April 19 to April 20, 2023

Location: Virtual

Background

The European Commission asked EFSA to revise its ‘Risk assessment for Birds and Mammals’ which was published in 2009. That guidance described how to perform risk assessments for birds and mammals of plant protection products, containing pesticide active substances, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 1107/2009.

The new guidance document outlines a tiered risk assessment scheme covering dietary exposure, exposure via secondary poisoning and exposure via intake of contaminated water. EFSA has also developed an online calculator

which will implement the risk assessment methodology for all tiers of the risk assessment.

Following the recent update of the guidance document, EFSA is organising two information sessions which will focus on the following topics:

  • The revised guidance document, on 19 April (14.00-17.00)
  • The calculator, on 20 April (10.00-11.30)

Objectives of the event

The events aim to:

  • Provide a clear overview of the updated guidance document with an emphasis on the key changes
  • Provide an insight on how to perform risk assessments using the calculator
  • Address questions to enhance the understanding of the revised guidance document and calculator. Please include your questions to the presenters in the registration form. It will not be possible to ask questions during the information sessions.

Who should attend?

The event is designed for risk assessors in Member States, industry, consultancies, academia and NGOs.
